Island Batik Ambassador Blog Hop ByAnnie

It’s Autumn and we’re ready to snuggle up in our sewing nooks! This month the Island Batik Ambassadors were able to select a ByAnnie pattern to make, with all the supplies generously supplied, along with the supporting add-on video!

Supply List

  • ByAnnie Project Bags 2.0 Pattern
  • Shape Flex (Pellon SF101)
  • ByAnnie Clear Vinyl
  • ByAnnie’s 30″ Handbag Zipper (Navy)
  • ByAnnie’s Soft and Stable 18″x58″
  • Island Batik Country Charm, Flowers Blue Bluebelle 812304505
  • Island Batik Country Charm, Paisley with Dots – Teal 812306999
  • Island Batik Country Charm, Flowers – Blue Shark 812304513
  • Island Batik Country Charm, Flowers – Orange Tiger 812304266
  • Aurifil MAKO 4655 – Blue variegated thread
  • Schmetz 75/11 Needle

This was a whole new adventure for myself. I approached each step as an independent milestone with not only new techniques, but new materials. The pattern starts out with tips with sewing with vinyl, putting my mind at ease through the process.

Thankfully step one after the cutting and prep was to quilt! I chose some matchstick quilting and serpentine lines to match against the watery batik design in this gorgeous collection. This is such a great way to try out new designs on a smaller project, it’s definitely in my mind for more project bags!

The add-on video came in to save the day when it came to the binding. In the end my corners aren’t the cleanest points, but I love the full look of the edges. The video provided not only a technique, but also solutions to various challenges.

The mystery of handles was finally solved! Oh how nice it is to have a sturdy cloth handle on an item. It felt life the real deal, unlike my previous thin, floppy, lopsided handles of the past!

Make sure you check out the other ambassador posts as they navigate several of the ByAnnie patterns–some of them making multiple sizes!
