Island Batik Ambassador Project with Accuquilt! North Carolina Star BOB

This month, the Island Batik ambassadors’ monthly challenge had a partnership with Accuquilt! We were sent the North Carolina Star Block on Board (BOB) to make an autumn project of any size!

Can you see how my project came from this block? Let’s step through the process!

What I love about Accuquilt’s Block on Boards, is the versatility of the board. If you need 120 triangles for another pattern, you could just use that shape on this die! The die itself comes with cutting instructions to get you started, but your creativity can take over at anytime.

I used the Sandalwood collection in 10 inch precuts to fit the fall theme, but also makes precutting much easier. Remember that you only need to worry about covering the shape you want to cut, you don’t need an exact amount. This is great on those days I don’t feel like clearing off my cutting mat. I snipped the approximate size with scissors from the already convenient sized pre-cut.

Yup! That is my entire table runner! I was able to chain piece through each stack and keep all my pieces straight. I liked these shapes from the die because every single one of them is outside the standard rotary cuts. You would need some special rulers or templates for each of these. It was fun to take these complicated elements and make such a dynamic block.

Lastly, I used my final half yard cut from the Prairie Dreams Collection from Island Batik. It worked to be the perfect size for both backing and wrap around binding. The runner finished 10 x 40 inches.

Here is my project list:

  • Accuquilt! North Carolina Star Block on Board with Accuquilt GO! Cutter
  • Island Batik Sandalwood 10 inch precut stack and half yard from Prairie Dreams (122234450) Purple Lotus Weather Vanes
  • Aurifil Threads Mako NE 50/2 (1246)
  • Hobbs Batting in Premium Heirloom 80/20
  • Schmetz Needle in size 75/11, Quilting and Piecing Needle
  • Baby Lock Crescendo for piecing, serpentine stitch quilting, and binding

Makes sure to check out the other Island Batik Ambassadors to see their unique projects for this month! It’s been amazing how different they all are!
