Timeless Quilting with Island Batik

You are just 5 simple blocks away from a stunning heirloom! This month the Island Batik ambassadors were challenged to make a timeless quilts with an arrangement of blocks and the results are breathtaking!

As part of the Island Batik program I am sent the materials for the monthly challenges. Thank you to the generous sponsors, Lumin Fabrics, Aurifil Thread, Oliso Home, and Schmetz Needles!

I’m thrilled with the surprise fabric I received, Cherry Blossoms by Carol Moellers Designs. This collection truly is a wonderful blend of blues pinks and browns with floral designs.

I used Electric Quilt 8 to import the fabric swatches, and play with tons of layouts. I decided on 12 inch blocks. Here is the schedule I followed to complete the quilt:

Week 1: 1 Ohio Star Block

Week 2: 4 Hourglass blocks

Week 3: 4 Sawtooth Stars

week 4: 4 of each flying geese blocks

Week 5: 4 of each nine patch

Week 6:

  • 2 inch inner border
  • 6.5 inch outer border
I chose the 80/20 cotton batting from Hobbs Batting.

Quilt finished at 75″ x 75″.

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway on Lumin’s Facebook and Instagram and check out the other ambassadors for their timeless creations! This month is full of stunning quilts!

  3. Lovely quilt! Now I’m inspired to choose five blocks and see what I can come up with, but it will have to wait until after Christmas sewing.
