Shadow Bloom Dresden Plate Blog Hop

Grab your dresdens rulers, it’s the Dresden Plate Blog Hop with Island Batik! Each ambassador is making a stunning quilt this month using the latest releases of Fabrics to just hit your local quilt shops!

As part of the Island Batik Ambassador program, I received all the supporting materials for this project from Island Batik, Schmetz Needles, Aurifil Thread, Hobbs Batting, and my trusty Oliso Iron from Oliso home. I am an affiliate for Electric Quilt and Accuquilt. I may earn a small commission at no additional expense to you if you use my affiliate links in this post.

Shadow Bloom, a signature collection by Jerry Khiev for Sara Fabian of Quilt Basket is a stunning collection of blue and purple toned florals. It really does give you the transformation to a magic garden by the beaches in the moonlight!

The dresden inspired block I chose was the Grandma’s Fan block. There are tutorials to applique on the “spokes” created with the dresden ruler, but I took the fun and easy way with the Grandma’s Fan Block on Board (BOB) from accuquilt!

This accuquilt die makes this block so incredibly simple to cut and piece with build in notches to line up your “spokes” to the curves. Batiks are my favorite fabrics to use with all Accuquilt products because of the tighter weave. There’s less shifting on the board as it goes through the cutter, while other fabrics you have to be mindful of the direction of the straight of grain.

The design I drafted in Electric Quilt has the combination of straight lines, and clustered fans. I feel like large tropical flowers are raining down in this design!

Here is my project list:

Now you have 2 chances to win!!!

First is through Island Batik’s generous weekly giveaway. They are giving away two fat quarter bundles! You can enter at the Rafflecopter link on their blog:

Second Chance to win is by entering my giveaway page. I ran short on 10-inch cuts for my curve pieces, so having these 10-inch stacks around is a life saver. I love the gradient collections to use all together, or seperate out for a perfect match to other projects. I can’t wait to see what you make with this Playful Purples collection! 1. Instead of using the focus fabrics to make the Dresden Blades, you used the neutrals while moving the focus fabrics to the background! The switcharoo is surprisingly delightful! Love it!!!
