Are your sewing tools tucked away in every little drawer? Have you gave in a purchased a notion, to find it later under your sewing machine’s extension table? I’m guilty of both those! We love all the little notions that make tasks easier, but organizing them, keeping them out of the way when not in use, and quickly being able to grab them on the go is a whole other issue.

This month the Island Batik Ambassadors are making patterns of their choice from ByAnnie featuring new collections from Island Batik. Thank you to ByAnnie for sponsoring the patterns and materials for this month’s creations!
Thank you to Oliso Home, Schmetz, and Aurifil for their sponsorship in the Island Batik Program!
The fabric collection I got to work with was Misty Mornings by Katie Colleran Designs, LLC. It’s easy to fall in love with these blues, ivories, pinks, and soft greens with little birds and flowers stamped throughout.

The first pattern I chose was “Take a Stand” – Stand-up totes in two sizes have an easy-to-install zippered top that opens wide for easy access to the contents. Each Take A Stand tote features an adjustable, detachable carrying strap and plenty of room for supplies and more. Two zippered pockets on the outside of the tote and two inner mesh pockets keep everything organized and easy to view.

But, there’s a companion pattern to this one that I pleeded for, and thrilled they said yes! The ByAnnie Tool Keeper – “Running with Scissors” a companion to Take A Stand. That pattern includes instructions for a handy zip-up Tool Case to store and carry a plethora of tools, from rotary cutters and scissors to markers, turning tools, small rulers, and more. A variety of easy-to-access pockets in vinyl, mesh, and quilted fabric can be customized to fit the tools you use and love.
The small Take A Stand tote make a perfect stand for the Tool Case in our Running With Scissors pattern. Just fold the Tool Case over so that the inner pockets are exposed. Place the Tool Case “billboard-style” over the upright tote. You’ll love the stability and easy access to all your supplies. The large tote will hold the Running With Scissors Tool Case and/or fabric, tools, and more.

And together they are the perfect match to organizing all your notions, propping them up so they are out of the way while your working as well. No more juggling these tools around and having them roll off the back of the table into an abyss!

I’m glad that I started with the Take a Stand pattern first to increase my Zipper confidence. The Running with Scissors main zipper is installed backwards, but I’m still impressed with myself with how it turned out!
I’ll also be making a ByAnnie pattern October 22nd for the #SewPink Blog hop. With that sponsorship, ByAnnie sent me their stiletto. This tool made all the difference in making tight neat binding. Running with Scissors had the most layers I’ve ever sewn, and a rounded corner, but pulling the binding over the edge and securing it right up to the point of the needle coming down to stitch it into place. I can’t recommend this tool enough!
I used a Schmetz Needles 75/11, but a titanium 90/14 worked better towards the end. My needle broke when I wasn’t keeping track of my zipper pulls and the needle hit one, so watch out for those towards the end!

All in all, a wonderful set of patterns resulting in creations I will use and adore for years!
Now it’s time for a giveaway! The Partnership program with Missouri Star has ended so if you’ve saved my link, there will no longer be a discount automatically applied. Have no fear though, I still have some treats to extend! This week I’m giving away TWO Missouri Star quilt pattern books! Simply enter at the link below with your name and email, and I’ll pick a winner October 12th, 2024.
