This month’s project is to make a mini quilt with any of the fabrics provided from Island Batik! If you missed the huge unboxing it’s on my blog and YouTube and you’ll see I have lots of beautiful collections to choose from along with batting, notions, and threads. These items were given to me free of charge in exchange of participating in the Island Batik Ambassador program. This post also contains links to products for your convenience, and I may receive a commision when you make a purchase which is no additional cost to you.

This started with Bunny Hill Designs having a 4th of July sale. I’ve adored Anne Sutton’s work for years. This sale revealed a lot of patterns I didn’t know she had available. I hauled quite a few mini-quilt patterns.
Since I love all her work, my pattern pickers were my husband and son. My son chimed in first with “Acorn Soup” and my husband followed suite. My son loves squirrels so that was his choice over the Christmas patterns I thought he’d choose.
This pattern has a nice autumn feel. The perfect fabric to pair with is Island Batiks’ Fall Gatherings along with some other scraps in that color range. Island Batiks always release beautiful earthy collections!

There are hundreds of variations of appliqué. With the tight weave of batiks, I enjoy pairing them with a coordinating aurifil thread and machine stitching them.
With some new accessories from Missouri Star, I decided to have my appliqué turned over rather than raw edge, then stitched down. Remember to use this link to get 20% off your order when you spend $50! Discount applied automatically in your cart, some exclusions apply.

Being a smaller quilt meant more time to spend on quilting! I used 2 layers of Hobbs Premium Polyester Batting to have lots of puff in this quilt.

My go to machine quilting thread is usually Hab and Dash by Fil-Tech 40wt glide thread, but for all the custom quilting on this project, I ventured into 60wt thread. This is a thinner thread, which melted into puffy batting. It quilted like a dream holding up through all the layers and different speeds between regulated and manual modes. I’m going to have to collect every color now!
