The Raven, by Blackbird Designs is an appliqué quilt that’s been in my bucket list for years. This year there’s been another round of books printed with a coordinating kit available at Fat Quarter Shop.

I’m using my Island Batik stash, especially this stunning black fabric from the Earthly Stories Collection from Lumin Fabrics.

With this project, I’m experimenting with various machine appliqué methods. Block 1 I copied the pattern to freezer paper, then turned all the edges with starch and an iron. All my point were blunt with this method. For the next block I’m trying out printable freezer paper, and glueing the edges over with Appliquick Rods.
I’ll be updating this post as I go, so follow along on my social media and newsletter to see when it’s updated!
