Get ready for the most amazing scrap busting movement of the year with the Strippy Spools Sew Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop!
I was able to use over 100 Island Batik fabrics in the lap size of the pattern! Batiks pair together well through most patterns and colors with their consistent material and dying method. It was a blast going through years or memories of Island Batik Projects.
As a disclaimer, I am in the Lumin Fabrics, Island Batik Ambassador program which sponsors my fabric, as well as partnering with Oliso Home, Hobbs Batting, Schmetz Needles, and Aurifil Thread used in this project. Fat Quarter Shop sent me the pattern for free. I am an affiliate of Fate Quarter shop, so purchases you make with my affiliate links will earn me a small commision at no expense to you. Thanks!

My deviation from the pattern is just using a different fabric color for the spools, so they would match the iconic orange Aurifil Spools for their Mako 50wt threads.

Here are the materials used in this project:
- Strippy Spools quilt pattern by It’s Sew Emma
- Background Fabric: Island Batik Foundations Dark Grey
- Island Batik Neutrals bor bobbins
- Island Batik Solid Foundation in Orange
- Island Batik Scraps
- Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 in Black
- Schmetz 75/11 universal needle
- Olison Home TG1600Pro+ Iron in Yellow
- Aurifil Mako 50 wt thread in 2605 Dark Gray
So now on to the sew-along! It kicks off in May and runs for 8 weeks. You’ll have plenty of time to get this fun project done and have your own memories preserved in your favorite thread inspiration!

I can’t wait to see what you make during the sew along! LINK TO SEW ALONG MATERIALS AND INFO
